Day 6:
I hate mosquitos! I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden we were getting eaten alive by mosquitoes everywhere we went. No more walks by the golf course or sitting in pool chairs near the bushes. To make matters worse, all of the stores were out of bug spray, so we really had no defense.
We thought we would escape from the mosquitos and go back to our condo. Little did we know, all the AC had gone out. So now we had to choose between fighting off mosquitos or staying in our "sauna-like" room. We hung out in the enclosed buffet as long as we could, but eventually we had to face the heat. That night, Nick’s idea was that he would sleep in the shower with the cool water running and get some sleep that way. He built himself a nice bed with the outdoor cushions, but he didn’t last more than 15 minutes until he was back in bed with me.
Day 7:
It took them 2 days to fix the AC, so we spent a lot of our time out of our place. Instead of going to one of the pools, we went to the beach and picked some chairs there as home base for the day. We were loving the virgin mojitos, but every time we would ask for them without alcohol, the bartenders went crazy… cause who does that in Mexico?!
The beach had a little enclosed area that was blocked from the waves but the fish could freely come in and out of the “pool”. If you stood still the fish would run into your legs sometimes, but it kinda freaked me out! Especially the bigger ones.
Day 8:
Fishing trip
While we were in Tulum one day we booked a private fishing charter. We headed out in the morning with our two crewmen. We both caught a barracuda, and Nick caught a Mahi-Mahi, which we got to keep.
Since we caught some right away we decided to head back early so we could go swim with
the sea turtles. Which I’m so glad we did because that was probably one of my favorite parts of
the trip. We got so close to them and it was really neat to see God’s creation up close and personal.
When we got back to land, they gutted our Mahi-Mahi and we took it across the street to a local restaurant and they cooked it up for us. It was the freshest fish I’ve ever eaten and it was amazing.
Day 9:
Our last day before having to head home. It was another relaxing day on the beach and we went to a few of the shows that night to see if we had been missing anything (but we hadn’t, haha).
We had our last few mojitos for a while and enjoyed the last few hours of relaxing before real life started.
Day 10:
Going home.
We made our way to Cancun to give back the Mercedes and fly out that afternoon.
It was such a fun trip and we will remember it forever. Having a forever travel buddy is awesome and we can’t wait to explore so many different places.
If we’re being honest, Mexico it’s somewhere we would go back to right away. But that’s mainly because get bored of doing the same thing after a while and would just rather explore new places! I would be surprised if we ever repeated a trip (besides visiting family) because there are just so many places to see in this world and we want to see as much as we can.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
